Not every trip out of Antalya has to end at another beach or another ruin. Köprülü Kanyon and Saklıkent are the region's two real adventure-sport destinations — one built around whitewater, the other around snow.
Köprülü Kanyon: Whitewater Rafting Through a National Park
Declared a national park in 1973, Köprülü Kanyon carries the Köprüçay River through a gorge roughly 14 km long with walls over 100 meters high. Rafting tours cover the full stretch in two to three hours, with rapids ranging from calm to moderately challenging — approachable for first-timers, engaging enough for more experienced rafters. The Roman-era Oluk Bridge, still in use today, is the canyon's best-known landmark, and hiking trails continue further in toward the ancient city of Selge.
Saklıkent: Skiing Minutes from the Sea
Saklıkent is Antalya's ski center, up in the Beydağları section of the Taurus Mountains — a genuinely unusual novelty given how close it sits to the coast. The season runs roughly December 10 to April 10, with slopes for different levels.
Late February and March are when locals actually pull this off — this stretch of Turkey is one of the few places anywhere positioned for it.
Which One Should You Pick?
If you're visiting between May and October, Köprülü Kanyon's rafting season is open and Saklıkent's slopes will be bare — rafting is the clear choice. Visiting between December and April instead makes Saklıkent viable, and pairing a ski morning with a beach afternoon back on the coast is a genuinely rare thing to do in the same day.
