The Rock Tombs of Myra

Carved directly into the cliff face, Myra's sea necropolis is one of the most striking sights on this coast — Lycian-era tombs built as stone copies of the wooden houses their occupants once lived in, some still showing detailed reliefs. A well-preserved Roman theater sits at the base of the same cliff.

St. Nicholas Church

Built in 520 AD on the site of an earlier church where Saint Nicholas served as bishop, this Byzantine church — now a museum — is where his tomb originally lay before most of his remains were taken to Bari, Italy, in 1087. The 19th-century restoration, funded by Russian Tsar Nicholas I, added the bell tower still standing today.
