Side is a working ancient city — a peninsula old town where restaurants, shops, and hotels sit among genuine Roman ruins, about an hour from Antalya Airport. It's one of the few places on this coast where the "old town" and the "ancient site" are the same few streets, rather than a museum separate from where people actually stay.

The Temple of Apollo and the Harbor

Six Corinthian columns of the Temple of Apollo rise directly from the harbor at the peninsula's tip — one of the most photographed spots on the whole coast, especially at sunset. The harbor itself stays lively into the evening, with restaurants and cafés facing the water.

The Roman Theater

Side's Roman theater once held up to 15,000 spectators and is one of the largest in Anatolia — a short walk inland from the harbor, and easy to combine with the temple in the same visit.

Things to Do Beyond the Ruins

  • Boat tours — regular trips leave from the harbor along the coast, including themed cruises that are popular with families
  • The Side Museum — housed in a nearly 2,000-year-old Roman bathhouse, with artifacts from the site's excavations
  • Manavgat River Cruise — a short trip from Side out to the Manavgat waterfall and bazaar

Good to Know

  • Best for: combining beach time with genuine ancient-city sightseeing, without a separate day trip
  • Nearby: the Manavgat river and market, and the wider Side coastal resort belt (Titreyengöl, Çolaklı, Evrenseki, Sorgun)
